The Chickens are Coming!
Apparently my plan is a couple weeks late according to the current egg/avian flu crisis, but we’ve been working toward being chicken custodians for awhile now, and it’s finally happening!
Most everyone I talked to said I should just purchase chicks in the spring from a Tractor Supply or similar, but I’m too impatient to wait another 3-4 months, so I found a gentleman here in town who said he would sell me a handful of adults who are already laying.
I’m so so excited!!!
This last week I’ve been working on cleaning out our chicken coop. Between an ice storm, school, my better half working nights, and probably other things I’ve forgotten about now, I wasn’t able to work through it as fast as I’d wanted. There’s a few things I still want to finish, but I’m pretty happy with the progress.
Like any good lady with totally unrealistic expectations, I’m a little sad it doesn’t look like all of the sunlight filled, creative, beautiful chicken set ups I’ve seen on Instagram, but still not bad for a total newbie. Plus I’m stoked to see what I can upgrade and add along the way once I learn a thing or two. Literally the only goal I have right now is to keep them alive each day, and hopefully this will do the trick.
A big part of our project was relocating our sweet herd of shop kitties, so it’s only right that I share their new digs also.
Looking forward my weekend of chickens out here. Wish me luck, everyone! 😆
Cheers, y’all!
