…of Ducks & Trucks
Another vast update post since…you know…it’s been five months. 🤦♀️
Springtime came…& now summer. Everything was green and alive. Now its just hot.
We saw some ahhhhhmazing northern lights! I thought they were so interesting to photograph; they were much brighter with the naked eye, but the camera really brought out colors we couldn’t see in the moment. They were so bright that for a few seconds I genuinely thought that it might be an asteroid instead & we were all doomed. 😆
Springtime brought us ALL OF THE BABIES. In a most shocking turn of events, our bird population has almost tripled.
…and last but certainly not least, the fluffiest gosling I’ve ever known. We ADORE her (him?😬).
Mmmm, did I mention ducks??
Since all of this occurred a few months ago, this is the state of things currently.
We have some “mutts” in the mix, but mostly mallards & Cayuga ducks. Watching their feathers come in has been really cool, the Cayugas have bright green and purple iridescent feathers. They seem like they should glow in the dark.
Ok. Took me a moment, but moving on. I promise.

We bought a truck!
Not a life changing thing for most, but it was a really big deal for us. We have been working in transportation now for over four years together, and the struggle is very real to move past the “paying to lease a truck in order to make money to pay for your lease payment” cycle. Leasing is a the best way to get moving and get the experience, but it’s also difficult to move upward & onward from there.
Being on the other side, we are now learning the real-world price of insurance, permits, licensing, fuel, maintenance, authorities, and general cost of running, which honestly guys, is terrifying at times. You truly do have to “pay to play”, but a lot of folks never make it that far and we are really stoked to get the chance to do it on our own. This truck signifies a lot of freedom & flexibility that we didn’t have before. Here’s to Big Red being just one more step up. A huge THANK YOU to a few people and circumstances that came together to make this happen for us as well-we definitely didn’t do it entirely alone. ❤️
Also, there were horses. 😍
There was tee-ball…
…and bugs. LOTS of bugs.
…and fun random summery celebrations & shenanigans.
In conclusion, it’s been a really cool summer. In a lot of ways we are still adjusting to living in one place after the last few years, and in a lot of other ways I feel like we’ve loved this place for a lifetime already.
Life is cool you guys.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, friends. Root for me to find the necessary discipline to update this blog a bit more often. 🤦♀️
Cheers! ✌️
