2.5 Humans, Erm…..Do Other Things? 🤷♀️
My last post promised some big changes. I suppose one of those changes was regular blog updates. 🤦♀️
In my defense, it’s been a chaotic, super busy summer and fall, but I’m ready to share some bits of it, so hang on to your hats.
Here are some things that have been happening since April;
We kicked kiddo and myself off the rig…for good. My better half continued running the truck for a few months, and we ultimately turned the truck back in to its rightful owners in July.
We visited my dad in the Pacific Northwest…
I accidentally drove through a lovely small town in central Montana, and knew after two days that I was home. 🥰
…we rented a moving truck and cleaned out our storage unit that we’ve had in Colorado for the last four years…
…I worked for the summer at a really cool, beautiful hotel that has been around since 1882 and made some really good friends…
…we moved in to a super tiny 400sqft apartment…
…our kid became obsessed with his latest Lego build, so I took some artsy-fartsy pictures of it by the river. It was silly and fun.
About a week after we signed a lease for our tiny place, another, far more sustainable apartment became available…….so we moved again.
…I made some ahhhhhmazing horse friends and went horseback riding for the first time in decades! 😍
…we did arts & crafts!
…I turned 40…😳
Umm. We adopted a dog for some reason. I’m not even sure how that happened.
…we went tubing…
…and camping…
…and hiking (lots of hiking)…
…family came to visit…
…we went to the fair…
…we visited the Tetons and Yellowstone park…
…we fostered a kitty because our local animal shelter was resealing their floors, and he TOTALLY stayed…🥰
…we built a table and finally settled in at our new place…
…..aaaand then we were promptly offered a twenty acre farm just outside of town to rent!! As ridiculous as moving AGAIN felt, there was no way we were going to pass this up. This is exactly the life we were looking for by moving to a more rural area. 😍
My head is obviously spinning, but with that not-so-short photo documentary, I think you’re mostly caught up. Our lives have done a complete 180 from just a few months ago, and along with that, the theme of this blog will likely shift as well.
I was raised on a homestead, and though it took me a couple of decades of life and messiness, I have known for a number of years now that I wanted to get back to it. A huge goal of ours is to grow and raise our own food, a goal that has only grown in importance after experiencing the big industry side of life that we’ve been immersed in the last few years. There’s a lot of weird shit going on in the world and, like a lot of people, I feel pretty helpless about most of it. The only thing I know to do is create a tiny corner of space on the planet that is beautiful and alive and safe and self sustaining. I hope to contribute its awesomeness and share it with others and send out good vibes that way.
So this is our start to a whole new chapter for us. As lovely as the previous paragraph sounds to me (and I can’t emphasize this next part enough), I KNOW NOTHING about what it’s going to take. I have read books and followed blogs and taken about 379064873 screenshots of great setups and ideas and amazing things I want to build…but we are still learning from square one. I hope our adventures (and guaranteed misadventures) can be a helpful resource for others who are interested in doing the same.
Thanks for reading and welcome to the new and improved (and sort of unlikely) travel/sustainable farming blog! 🤷♀️🤔🤗
Wish us luck, haha! Happy Monday and cheers, y’all!
