Appalachian Trail
We are in northern Maine today. We’ve been here before, but only very briefly, and only a few miles over the border, so today’s drive has been aaaaawesomely beautiful.
My favorite part by a large margin was SEEING MOUNT KATAHDIN!! Mt Katahdin is the tallest peak in Maine, and also happens to be the northern start/stop to the over 2000 mile long Appalachian Trail.
The closest I’ve been to the trail is driving under an over-the-road walkway somewhere in Virginia, I don’t have ANY backpacking gear, and I’m not in shape for any walks over like, 5 miles at the moment. However, I’ve been reading about people who’ve thru-hiked the AT since I was stationed in San Diego over 10 years ago, and it kindof became a secret fantasy of mine to do a thru-hike of my own someday.
I wrote it off as unrealistic for many years, as I didn’t really consider myself savvy enough to do the trail solo. When I met my now husband, he suggested we call it a goal instead of a wild, far off fantasy. I agreed. 😊
So here we are. I’m finally putting out into the universe that thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail is a legit goal of mine. With that being said, seeing this big guy off in the distance was way cool today.
Here’s to seeing it up close someday soon. 🏔
